Nurse Practitioner for Chronic NCDs’ is a new dimension the rising burden of chronic NCDs in the country. Over the next 15 years, it is anticipated that global cost of CVD will be US$47 trillion, this includes direct healthcare costs and productivity loss from disability or premature death, or time loss from work because of illness or the need to seek care. In low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) nearly 80% of NCD related deaths occur. Experience from the developed countries had revealed that the nurses can play an important role in prevention and management of NCDs in different health care settings. In LMIC as there is shortage of health manpower so nurses can be effectively utilized as nurse practitioners for the prevention and management of NCDs and reducing cost of care by early identification and regular monitoring.

National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), PGIMER Chandigarh:

It is one of the premiere Institutes of nursing education and WHO Collaborative Centre for nursing and midwifery research. It was started initially in 1964 as a college of nursing and later named as NINE in 2003. It offers B.Sc. Nursing (4years), B.Sc. Nursing Post basic(2years), M.Sc. Nursing (2years) and Ph.D Nursing. Approx. 150 graduate and 30 postgraduate students pass out every year. It is capacity building national centre of excellence in nursing education for India and LMIC. Apart from degree programmes, the college conduct refresher courses, workshops, seminars on the current issues in nursing to update the knowledge and skills of nurses.
