The Immunometabolism in Health and Disease GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes an array of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
This meeting will explore the intricate crosstalk between metabolic pathways and immune cell function, highlighting how nutrient availability, tissue microenvironments, and systemic cues shape immune responses in health and disease. Sessions will span molecular mechanisms of nutrient sensing, lipid signaling, and mitochondrial function, as well as translational insights into cancer immunotherapy, obesity, infection, autoimmunity, and inflammation. By bridging fundamental discovery with clinical relevance, this conference aims to advance our understanding of how metabolism drives immunity and how we might harness this knowledge to improve human health.
The theme of the 34th ICM Triennial Congress, One Million More Midwives, reflects the urgent need for at least one million additional midwives at the global level to meet the sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, and adolescent health (SRMNAH) needs of women and gender-diverse people. Using 2019 data, the latest State of the World’s Midwifery Report estimated a global shortage of 900,000 midwives. In the post-pandemic period, this number is certainly higher. The evidence shows that with at least 900,000 more midwives, we could prevent 67% of maternal deaths, 64% of newborn deaths, and 65% of stillbirths annually—saving up to 4.3 million lives every year by 2035.
Midwives are central to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing critical health inequities. Yet, the world is far from having the midwifery workforce it needs.
The 34th ICM Triennial Congress in Lisbon, Portugal is a pivotal moment for midwives, midwives’ associations, and partners to come together to discuss ways to address this challenge at national, regional and global levels. Through keynote sessions, panels, workshops, and networking opportunities, midwives will engage with critical topics, as well as share knowledge and global advancements in research, education, regulation, and practice that will benefit midwifery and SRMNAH care. The Congress will also provide a platform for midwives’ associations and midwives to learn, collaborate, and find ways to advocate for the resources and recognition needed to ensure the world gets one million more midwives.
We cordially invite you to the 2026 Oncology Symposia of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Zürich (CCCZ). The symposia offer a comprehensive and in-depth exploration of specific tumor entities. The primary focus is educational, featuring lectures on topics such as diagnostics, therapy, clinical trials, and research, delivered by CCCZ experts and distinguished guest speakers.
This symposium will bring together scientists across academia, industry, and government to explore the biology of viral infection, antiviral immunity, and the urgent need for countermeasures against a range of viral pathogens. The meeting aims to spark interdisciplinary collaboration and the exchange of novel ideas in this rapidly evolving field, with a focus on viral immunology, pathogenesis, evolution, prevention, and treatment.
Sessions will cover topics such as host-virus interactions, host factors affecting susceptibility, species expansion of emerging pathogens, effective and ineffective innate and adaptive immune responses, immune-based therapies, and vaccine innovation. Special emphasis will be placed on host-directed and immune-based approaches, which are gaining momentum in the field. By bringing together virologists and immunologists to share both breakthroughs and challenges, this symposium will help drive forward the development of effective therapies and vaccines against both emerging and persistent viral threats.
This meeting will feature our People’s Choice Poster Award, an opportunity to highlight an outstanding poster presenter at this conference. Poster presenters will not only share their work with a global audience of peers and leaders but also have the chance to be recognized by attendees and win a free future conference registration! Poster presenters, who are not giving a short talk, are eligible to win, with one winner chosen by attendee votes. Learn more on the Keypoint Blog
Conference Theme
In 2026 the Conference theme will be “Public Health at Risk – Collective Solutions to New Challenges”.
Public health in Australia and globally is at the crossroads.
This will be the first of our conferences that takes place following the establishment of the Australian Centre for Disease Control. But it arrives in an environment where global leadership in communicable disease control and immunisation appears to be in retreat. We have increasingly more sophisticated prevention and response options, but we face the challenges of falling immunisation coverage, growing climate crises and declines in societal trust in institutions following the pandemic. In the next few years artificial intelligence may change every aspect of the way we do our day-to-day work, but how should we best respond to take advantage of the available benefits, whilst managing the existing and emerging risks?
In this challenging time we are asking you to bring to this conference your ideas to drive improvement in communicable disease control and prevention. The conference will provide the opportunity to learn about the changes happening nationally and internationally, and to share your local solutions and successes. What can we learn from you to better manage our most pressing challenges? Join us in Melbourne to be part of the conversation as we work together to improve disease control in Australia.
Conference objectives The objectives of the conference are to:
Create a dynamic environment to foster knowledge sharing, collaboration and relationship building among health professionals working on communicable disease control, immunisation, and related areas
Highlight the activities of relevant research programs on infectious and vaccine preventable diseases to encourage engagement in high quality research initiatives to improve health outcomes for Australians
Provide collective guidance and insight into capacity building and strengthening communicable disease control and immunisation programs
Provide conference delegates with new and innovative ideas that can be applied to local settings and systems to help create and improve public health systems for local communities
The 2026 BAUS Annual Scientific Meeting is a sponsored event. All companies sponsoring the event are named and have no influence on the content of the programme or the selection of speakers, except where they are hosting a dedicated sponsored symposium session (these are clearly identified in the conference programme). The meeting also receives exhibition sponsorship from pharmaceutical companies and other trade partners.
