IMKASID 2025

First of all, I would like to thank all members for their support, allowing me to take over from Chairman Wu Mingxian and serve as the Chairman of the 19th Taiwan Gastroenterological Medical Association to serve everyone. The Taiwan Gastroenterological Medical Association is one of the earliest sub-specialty medical societies established in China, with more than 2,500 members, making it a leader in terms of history and scale.

During my tenure as chairman, the society will deepen the training of young doctors, continue to strengthen international exchanges, and promote young doctors to the international stage in a planned way. Education is an important task of the society, and the training of young doctors must be further deepened. Talent cultivation includes technical training, knowledge training and research method training. The society will continue to organize various educational courses. In addition to general education courses, it also arranges advanced courses, which teach research methods, how to find research topics, etc. . The society holds two large-scale events every year, including the annual meeting in March and the Taiwan Digestive Medicine Week (TDDW) held in late September and early October. In fact, not only Taiwan has TDDW, Japan has JDDW, and South Korea has KDDW. Former Chairman Lin Zhaotang With the mediation of , the three countries jointly organize joint seminars, which are held in each country in turn every year. Senior doctors will lead young doctors to participate, expanding the opportunities for young doctors to participate in international conferences.

Since the society's exchanges with the international community have become quite stable, we must continue to find ways to hold large-scale international conferences in Taiwan to enhance the society's academic influence. The last time Taiwan held Asia Pacific Digestive Medicine Week (APDW) was in 2015. I look forward to striving to hold APDW in Taiwan during my term of office, attracting more experts from Asia, and even European and American countries to come to Taiwan to participate, conduct formal exchanges, and give full play to the academic power of the society. Influence and friendship with experts from various countries. International exchanges are very important, but domestic exchanges must also be strengthened. TDDW is to join the participation of other societies. However, when resources are limited, the integration of relevant societies is a direction that must be considered, and co-organizing seminars is an easier way to advance.

The operation of the society must be related to academics, and new knowledge must be created to be passed on to the next generation, and knowledge must be transformed into clinical methods of caring for patients. Taiwan’s research must rely on quality and excellence to succeed. Taiwan has very talented people who can come up with better strategies through brainstorming. The World Health Organization relies on Taiwan's experience in the natural history of hepatitis B to understand the circumstances under which medication can provide the greatest benefit to patients. Another example is that the gastric cancer prevention and treatment and colorectal cancer screening guidelines formulated by Taiwan have also been incorporated into the World Health Organization's guidelines. These are not only a demonstration of the excellent research results of the Society, but also the advantages that Taiwan has. They must continue to be strengthened to show that Taiwan and the Society are proud of research strength.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is developing rapidly and is often used in imaging. Gastrointestinal medicine performs many imaging examinations, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, computed tomography, ultrasound, etc. Because AI is an extremely important auxiliary tool for digestive medicine, it is closely related to Cooperation within the industry is an important direction of development. Whether cooperating with the government or industry, the Institute must not rest on its laurels, but must extend outwards and carry out diversified development.

Another important task of the society is to cooperate with the government to exert greater influence. Policies affect many aspects, and the society looks forward to strengthening its connection with the government. In addition to assisting the government in implementing relevant policies, it can also participate in policy formulation, so that policies and clinical practice can be truly aligned. The government will consult the professional opinions of the society when formulating policies, and the society will provide evidence-based medical opinions, transform research results into policies, and implement them accordingly. In addition, cooperation with industry is also one of the key points.

The new government of President Lai Ching-te is about to take office. The new government strives to create a healthy Taiwan. Cancer is the top ten cause of death, many of which are related to digestive medicine. Controlling cancer can reduce mortality. The society is very happy to provide relevant opinions and work with the government. Build a healthy Taiwan. To reduce cancer mortality, the primary goal is early detection, and screening is an important method. National health insurance has clear regulations on liver cancer screening, which has been in place for many years and can detect liver cancer early. The team led by former Chairman Wu Mingxian continues to conduct Helicobacter pylori screening and treatment. The program in Matsu has proven that it can significantly reduce the incidence of gastric cancer. The government is also considering relaxing the conditions. In the future, even patients who have not received gastroscopy are expected to receive health insurance. Paid antibiotic treatment. In addition to reducing mortality through screening, providing good treatments to increase survival rates is another issue. There are many new drugs on the market for the treatment of advanced cancer. Take liver cancer as an example. In the past, nothing could be done about inoperable advanced liver cancer, and the patient’s survival period was only about three to six months. However, with the emergence of new immunotherapy and targeted drugs, In the market, the patient's survival time has been close to two years, which is a remarkable improvement. Because the cost of new cancer drugs is extremely high and there are many restrictions on health insurance, which affects patients' treatment effects, the Society will continue to present real-world data to fight for patients' rights to use drugs. If the government wants to achieve the goal of reducing cancer mortality by 30% in 2030, it needs to learn to cooperate with "frequent screening, extensive treatment, and strong medication" to control digestive tract cancer. In addition to continuing to deepen the existing development fields, the society must also develop new aspects. In addition to intestinal bacteria, nutritional medicine, including weight loss, there is also room for strength, giving digestive medicine more possibilities for development.

There are many things to learn, but these tasks cannot be completed by one person, but require the joint efforts of a team. In terms of the structure of the new team of the society, the secretary-general is appointed by Professor Liu Zhiming of National Taiwan University Hospital, an expert on Helicobacter pylori and gastric cancer. It also expands the participation of various medical systems and grassroots members, taking into account all aspects. In addition, the Society is also looking for young, energetic and enthusiastic new blood to join, to understand the operation of the Society, to prepare for taking on heavy responsibilities in the future, to achieve the purpose of inheritance, and to ensure the normal metabolism of the Society's operations. Inheritance is important, but so is innovation. We look forward to creating new mechanisms to allow Taiwan to be seen by the world and expand its influence.

Finally, on behalf of the 19th board of directors, deputy secretaries and secretaries of the society, I would like to express my highest respect and gratitude to all members.
