Nestling in a field of volcanic cones, Tāmaki Makaurau is also home to a thriving art and culinary scene. To north and south Auckland’s city and suburbs lap the waters of the Waitematā and Manukau harbours, while westward the Waitākere Ranges, cloaked in ancient rainforest, stand between city and wild west coast surf. In the east are the sheltered beaches and island sanctuaries of the Hauraki Gulf, where some of Aotearoa’s rarest fauna may still be found in the wild. Tāmaki Makaurau is rich in Māori history and alive with Pacific and global cultures.
